Grape inauguration

During the inauguration, I noticed Malia Obama taking pictures with a point-and-shoot digital camera. I'm glad it was of the "grape" variety, but disappointed it was a Kodak. I suppose a child doesn't need to be carrying a Canon G10, but this is front row seats to her father's presidential inauguration! Regardless of standards for normalcy, you won't see any of my future children wandering with lower-than-Canon/Nikon-tier point-and-shoot digital cameras. Shoo.

In other news, I joined Twitter. I don't really understand its purpose, but there it is on the right. My intent is to prepare myself for the purchase of an iPhone in the near future, which I anticipate will allow me to twit away, check Facebook incessantly, stay on top of my Gmail, and Google everything ever. I will propel myself into the future, even if years late.

I believe that with Twitter, as far as receiving tweets is concerned, you can get them via sms on your current phone. I don't know if the same goes for sending them.

Also, it's good that you don't refer to her as just "Malia."

twitter allows you to talk to everyone
while talking to no one

are you going to set it up so your updates show on the blog
or clickthrough forever

I have no SMS capacities on my current phone. My current phone has slow button-response unless I keep it in my pocket, meaning the warmer it is, the more responsive it is. This is how the Motorola Razr circa 2005 rolls.

I want to set up my Twitter so that it shows up on my blog, but I have yet to figure this out. I'd like a smooth setup and not one of those stupid ugly apps that's not even associated with Twitter. I could be making this fake app up, I don't even know.

agreed, with the point and shoots.

i've taken my canon sd1000 for granted, i can't seem to find a satisfactory replacement since it broke.

now with the g10 though, are things like 14 megapixels, face recognition, even necessary?

Those things that they boast for the G10 are probably not necessary and are just things to get not-too-serious people who don't want to commit to a DSLR to commit to a $400-500 non-DSLR camera. The G series (I have G9) is sweet--chunky, but the pictures are real talk! "Tha bidness," to quote Joe's latest post! The funny thing that I like about the G9 (not sure if this still holds for G10) is when you turn the camera on, you know how the lens open and move out? When you look through the viewfinder (no one does this anymore), the lens obstructs the view in the viewfinder. There's a little black blob at the bottom left when you look through. My dad was like WTF? I was like LOL!

are you honestly claiming that canon is on the same tier as nikon?

At the digital and point-and-shoot level, yes. I can't say I have rational reasons: I've had good experience with Canon, and Nikon lost me when they got Ashton Kutcher and Kimura Takuya on board for advertisements. Also, whichever you choose between Canon and Nikon, it's going to be less shameful than a digital Kodak, at least when seen by the world-wide public.

Fair enough, but at least now the right-wing quote unquote populist pundits won't be able to paint Obama as elitist anymore. Maybe it was strategic? Or product placement. Anyway, speaking of Kimutaku, he recently did a billboard for Samantha Thavasa with--------- Beyonce! It is very elegant in black and white and he looks terrified. Photos forthcoming.
