Hot & Dangerous

1. I did a load of laundry and did not use the dryer. However, a quick Google search shows that drying clothes outdoors is not necessarily permitted in all parts of this country. Then another quick Google search failed to reveal what the rules are in Chicago. But the relentless sun today did its job in a short amount of time, and none of the items being dried were scandalous, so I don't think the rules really matter.
2. My gel nails are holding up really well! I got them done three weeks ago (that's moyashi [bean sprouts] in the background!) at Kupu Kupu in Higashi-Totsuka (Yokohama), by my cousin's friend Aya. She runs her own business successfully all by herself, it's pretty amazing. I went to see her last year and got a mani-pedi fancy gel manicure; I really like the glitter gradation. It seems that as long as I continue to cut and file them, even with the gel on, they last fine. The color I picked (I copied my cousin) lends itself well to growing them out, too.

4. Every day, I check on the cucumbers to make sure they're not trying to strangle the maybe-bell peppers or themselves. Every day, when I peek around, I go, "WTF!" and end up harvesting at least one or two cucumbers. Today I found three. I also trimmed down the arugula patches and supposedly-mesculin lettuce leaves. They taste more like...what I imagine grass or leaves from a tree taste like. My mom says they're good when you cook them.

Red nails

I'm not in despair. I thought my hair would serve as the best background to picture my nails using Photobooth. I got them done yesterday.

I've been recording, more or less, what I've been up to today, as Richard did in this post. Naturally, this being a public log of my text and photos, I've picked an anomalously productive day to share. It will be a good comparison to yesterday, where I woke up at 10AM, called Salon Moka to make an appointment on whim, called my mom to see if she was free to take me to my appointment (she was), got some puppy news, read four pages of philosophy, watered the backyard for about 20 minutes, went to my appointment with my mom while she meandered in K-Mart (she said it was fun), and then went to the French bakery for the second day in a row, this time to hoard croissants (split douze with my mom, she paid for most), and then came home and watched an episode of "Nodame Cantabile." When Mordecai came home we made dinner (mozzarella, tomato, basil with balsamic vinegar on herb baguettes), watched World Series Game 1, went to the grocery, watched the rest of the game, and then we prepared for bed and I watched the second to last episode of Nodame before falling asleep around 1AM to what I think is Schubert's piano sonata no.16, but who knows what I play in my head. Lots of "tun tun tuns" and "tah rah rahs."

Weekend Recap

This past weekend, I painted my nails a robin egg, turquoise-ish color. It matches my blog!

I picked up my macarons from Provenance. They're expensive! Four for $6.99. But they were good, and they were hearty, well-filled macarons.

The cassis did not disappoint.

And even though it was Easter, Mordecai made latkes at my mother's request. We didn't have them during the holidays. Real talk: latkes should be year-round foods, anyway.

OPENING DAY! BASEBALL IS HERE! We had to go to the gym to watch some of the Yankees vs. Red Sox game last night on ESPN2. Today I have been following and listening to games with the MLB At Bat app on the iPhone. This means that fantasy has also started. I'm still getting used to the rhythm of daily leagues; I have a feeling I'm going to be a little busy this season. I haven't even started on my team collages!!! The White Sox had a good outing, and some of my Rockies were busy with their bats, so here is a shot of my new Rockies hat on top of my White Sox hat. I should've been wearing my Tigers hat, to represent their imminent victory. All I need is a Marlins hat to represent my undying devotion to JORGE CANTU. I'm probably the only Cantu fan in the country outside of Florida. YEAH JORGIE!
